The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is ready to lead the smartphone market with its top-notch capabilities; several upgrades arrived in the form of hardware or software. However, at the same time, the removal of Bluetooth connectivity from the S Pen is uncomfortable for its fans.

Galaxy S25 Ultra Loses These S Pen Features

Samsung has removed the Bluetooth compatibility from the S Pen which was responsible to execute several unique functionalities such as it will no longer capable to use air actions and work as camera shutter.

1. Air Actions

  • Lost Feature: Users could previously perform remote gestures to control apps, such as skipping music tracks, adjusting volume, or navigating slides during presentations.
  • Reason: These gestures required Bluetooth communication between the S Pen and the phone.

2. Remote Camera Shutter

  • Lost Feature: The ability to use the S Pen as a remote shutter button for taking hands-free selfies, group photos, or long-exposure shots.
  • Reason: The S Pen relied on Bluetooth to send shutter commands wirelessly.

3. Media and App Controls

  • Lost Feature: Functions like pausing or playing videos, adjusting volume, or controlling other apps remotely via the S Pen.
  • Reason: These media controls depended on Bluetooth for remote operation.

4. Customizable Air Commands

  • Lost Feature: Users could assign custom gestures or commands to specific apps using Air Actions.
  • Reason: Custom gestures required a Bluetooth link to transmit those specific inputs.

5. Smart Remote Features

  • Lost Feature: The S Pen could act as a remote control for Samsung DeX or other connected displays.
  • Reason: Without Bluetooth, the S Pen loses the ability to transmit commands remotely.

6. Proximity Alerts

  • Lost Feature: Notifications that alerted users when the S Pen was left behind or moved too far from the phone.
  • Reason: This feature relied on Bluetooth to track the S Pen’s location.

7. Battery-Powered Functions

  • Lost Feature: Advanced features that required power from the rechargeable S Pen battery, such as remote use and advanced gestures.
  • Reason: Without Bluetooth, the S Pen is no longer powered and operates purely as a passive stylus.

Why did Samsung remove S Pen Bluetooth capability?

Samsung is always trying to fill up the room with more innovation, but in this case the company is seemingly going to downgrade. However, there is speculation that Samsung could analyze the date internally about the usage of Bluetooth-enabled features of the S Pen user, and due to the less usage, the company took the decision to discontinue it and jump to the simple stylus approach where users are frequently using the S Pen as a drawing and writing tool compared to the Air actions and camera shutter button.

Are there other reasons behind the compromise of S Pen functionalities?

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is coming with an aesthetic new design with slimmer edges and thinner bezels, which are so balanced that it makes it a more refreshing model compared to the previous flagships. So to bring the new design to the table, the company has to compromise on the S features.

For your information, the S Pen comes with an inbuilt battery, which can be recharged with the internal charging port in the device slot. It works on the wireless architecture, which needs an integrated coil that takes more space to place there, and this might be the reason why the company has to downgrade it.
