Google brings a few major changes for developers within the Play Store in the US

Google finally lost the long-running battle with Epic Games regarding a dedicated third-party game store; however, to top off the court’s order, the company is starting to roll out a few major changes that will redesign how the Play Store is operated in the US.

According to the details shared on Google’s official support page, the company is making some major changes to apps in the Play Store for users in the US.

From now on, Google is offering complete freedom to the developers when communicating with the audience about the availability of promotions or deals of an app outside Google Play Store, while also allowing them to provide links to download any specific app outside its app store. Until now, the company has prohibited developers from directly informing their users when any app’s affordable yet better deal is available outside the Play Store.

Other than that, Google will not restrict the use of in-app payment methods other than Google Play Billing, nor does it require Google Play Billing for any app present in the Google Play Store.

Well, these Play Store changes will be in action starting October 29, 2025, and rolling out only for the US-based Play Store audience; however, it’s also clarified that the changes happening for the Google Play Store will only be applicable until the deadline of the US District Court’s order, which is still November 1, 2027.

Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the developers in other markets will not get the same treatment and will not benefit from the same deals.
