Unlocked Galaxy S20 units get December 2023 security update in the USA

Recently, Galaxy S20 devices grabbed the December 2023 update back for the locked variant of the devices, which is limited to some carriers, but now the unlocked device users will also start getting the same update, which will be available to every unlocked unit.

Users who own the unlocked units of the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra can identify the latest update by the firmware version numbers G981U1UES8HWK1, G986U1UES8HWK1, and G988U1UES8HWK1, respectively.

The latest firmware for the Galaxy S20 is coming with new security enhancements, so your device can be ready to fight against external threats that can be harmful to your device. Moreover, it is part of the security maintenance program, so don’t expect any new features or changes with the update, but it will provide some internal bug fixes. According to the official documentation, the latest update will introduce more than 60 security vulnerability fixes that are included by Google and Samsung, which will make sure that Galaxy users will get extra enhancements for the devices.

If you are also using the unlocked variant of Galaxy S20 devices, you can update them by following some simple steps: Go to the system settings, then tap on the software update, tap download and install, and then wait until it finishes searching. If it says a new update is available, then tap on the download button.

The Galaxy S20 was launched back in 2020, and it came with Android 10 preinstalled. Later, it grabbed three more major updates in the form of Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13 sequentially, but now it is no longer eligible to get any major updates. However,  it is still getting some more updates, which will be available in the form of security patches.
