Google’s Secret Foldable: Will the Pixel Fold Look Like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2?

Again, “Jumbojack” pixel foldable appears in the existing, since after being spotted back in 2021, somewhere internally it had lost its way to come across publicly, but this time it is appearing different than expected.
Initially, back in 2021, it was reported that a beta version of Android, which was launched as Android 12L, had added a new Pixel codename, “jumbojack.” As per the recent reports of Kyle Bradshaw, it became known that the device was being used for testing foldable software, which includes the native capability of Android to detect “positions” of foldables, for instance, when they are half-open.
The documentation is revealing that Google is pointing “jumbojack” as a Pixel device, but the reporters believed that it was just a testing toy for testing the foldable software, and at the end, it came true. It is being speculated by the well-known tipster @MishaalRahman on X that “Jumbojack” has apparently hit an online sales website. However, the actual listing is not displayed, but the pictures of the device point to the “jumbojack” codename in the Settings menu of a build of Android 12L. Despite all this, it is not exactly clear yet that this is surely the same device Google was testing back in 2021, and somewhere it is not appearing that it would be faked.

By presuming that this is that device, it’s literally going to be interesting to look at the hardware since this is not a similar custom prototype. Coming to the camera cutout place, the hinge hardware, and the bits of color peeking out from the sides, it’s pretty clear that this is a repurposed Galaxy Z Fold 2. The foldable Samsung, which debuted back in 2020, would have been the gadget available to Google at the time “jumbojack” was being used.

The device is running the “stock” version of Android 12L, which is used on Pixels, along with applications like Recorder and Safety installed. This seems to be an earlier version, too, basically where the notification drawer is not split into two panels as the final Android 12L release did. Actually, “stock” is not technically the right term, as Google does make modifications to the software on Pixels, which is not found in AOSP, but the fact is that the experience on Pixel smartphones is deliberate and not as close to “stock” as a major phone launch gets nowadays.
The point to be noted is that a change is appearing here with the bezels. The device seems to be a mock-up of bigger bezels as compared to what the Fold 2 basically had. However, it is not news that a pixel prototype has come into existence a few years later either, since, similar to this, back in 2021, the Pixel 2 XL prototype “muskie,” powered by HTC, surfaced on eBay. But somewhere, it astonished me this time around to see a test device that Google codenamed as if it were its Pixel, when actually it was just a repurposed Samsung phone, especially seeing as the Nexus days have long passed.
