One UI 8.0 Might Launch Sooner as Android 16 Comes Early
Samsung is still struggling with Android 15-based One UI 7. Meanwhile, Google has already started actively working on Android 16 to release it sooner than usual next year, which hints at the sooner release of One UI 8.0.
Ritually, Google releases a stable version of its latest major Android iteration sometime in the early second half of the year. Now, it is all set to change its strategy by introducing the next major iteration, Android 16, in the first half of 2025.
Google announced it is actively working on Android 16 and will release it in the second quarter of 2025 to align with the release schedule of new devices. The company stated that “the major release for Q2 rather than Q3 should better align with the schedule of device launches across our ecosystem, so more devices can get the major release of Android sooner.”
According to the blog post, Google plans to follow the same timeline for future Android releases. The early release of the Android 16 announcement suggests that Samsung can also start working on it sooner to customize its next-to-next iteration One UI 8.0 and offer it to Galaxy smartphones and tablets sooner than the usual timeline.
However, Samsung has yet to open the One UI 7 beta program and has already scheduled the stable version for next year. It remains to be seen exactly what will happen next.
