Samsung Unveils the World’s First MicroLED Display for Smartwatches

The CES 2025 event is streaming live, at which Samsung showcases the first smartwatch with a MicroLED display with the support of 4000 nits peak brightness.
The CES 2025 event displays the latest technology developments by brands, including Samsung Display, which unveiled a new MicroOLED screen specially designed for smartwatches that can reach 4,000 nits peak brightness.
The prototype that Samsung Display is showcasing reaches 4000 nits of peak brightness, or 33 percent brighter than the OLED screen in the Galaxy Watch Ultra. The display measures 2.1 inches with the support of 418 x 540 pixels resolution and 327 ppi pixel density.

The newly introduced Micro LED screen would be more efficient as it is not only brighter but also more durable as compared to the older OLED. The MicroLED has a longer lifespan while keeping the existing advantages of OLED screens and is emissive, similar to OLED screens, offering perfect blacks and an infinite contrast ratio.
Noticeably, the Micro LED screens lack as good pixel density as OLED screens; it could be because it is a comparatively newer technology. However, it doesn’t seem a major issue since Samsung Display’s MicroLED screen already has the same pixel density as OLED screens on Galaxy Watches available in markets.
