Samsung Messages became a serious matter of discussion when the company itself revealed the plans to shut down its proprietary messaging service from its Galaxy smartphone lineups. Meanwhile, recent reports apparently reveal that Samsung is retiring its Samsung Messages and making users shift to Google Messages

Beginning from 2021 alongside Galaxy S21 series, Samsung Messages and Google Messages stayed collectively on Galaxy devices for a long time, but this is going to change forever as Samsung revealed again that it is entirely dropping the Samsung Messages from the Galaxy smartphones.

Previously, Samsung has hinted that the newer Galaxy smartphones will not be pre-installed with the Samsung Messages app, replacing it with Google Messages and started with Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. Following this strategy, Samsung has not pre-installed its Messaging app in the newly-launched Galaxy S25 series, though the lineup came with the Google Messages app.

The company stated that Google and Samsung’s collaboration has always worked for the sake of the Android audience; thus, in order to migrate all the key services to Google Messages, Samsung is retiring Samsung Messages forever, while also confirming that it will no longer be available for download in the Play Store. Well, Samsung is making Google Messages a default app on Galaxy phones.

Alternatively, Samsung also clarified that those Galaxy users who want to choose to use Samsung Messages can still do so. The company aims to create an enhanced user experience via added functionality of RCS messaging on Google Messages for both Android-to-Android messaging and across platforms.
