Galaxy smartphones and tablets to be equipped with long lasting batteries

Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets sold in the EU will arrive with the EPREL label to provide battery health, like longevity and efficiency.

The Korean tech giant is already looking forward to introducing the Galaxy devices with better battery technology to enhance long-lasting battery breathe in the future.  On the opposite side, the European Union (EU) has been continuously working on enhancing consumers’ experience over the past few years by using efficient technology, and now it is bringing better smartphones and tablet batteries.

Notably, from June 2025, smartphones and tablets being sold in the EU must carry the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL) label, which will display battery longevity and efficiency. This new rule will force Samsung Galaxy devices sold in the EU to have the EPREL label, which will be efficient to showcase battery performance.

EU EPREL Label Smartphones

The EU has implemented a new rule that will force smartphones and tablets should have EPREL sold in the region starting 20 June 2025. The EPREL label is compatible with several devices, such as cordless landline phones, feature phones (non-smartphones), smartphones, and tablets with screen sizes from 7 inches to 17.4 inches, and also phones with flexible and rollable main displays.

The EPREL will showcase seven different metrics to decode the battery performance, which are as follows –

  • Energy Efficiency Grade (A to G), Energy Efficiency Class, Battery Endurance Per Cycle, Repeated Free Fall Reliability Class, Battery Endurance (In Cycles), Repairability Class, Ingress Protection (IP) Rating.

However, the device must fulfill the criteria set by the EU for the EPREL compatibility; for instance, it must have at least 80% of its original charge capacity after 800 charge cycles, efficient durability, easy and instant repair access, and the critical spare parts available within 5 to 10 working days by the company for easy repariability, and device must have at least five years of software support.
