Galaxy S22, Z Fold 4, and Flip 4 July 2023 update reaches more US carriers

Samsung recently began rolling out the July 2023 security patch to its Galaxy devices through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Initially introduced for the latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S23, in the United States, the update has now been expanded to include various other devices.

The Korean tech giant has already made the July 2023 security patch available for carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, as well as unlocked and locked Galaxy S22 series in the United States. Furthermore, Samsung is now extending the update to reach more US carriers.

For T-Mobile, MetroPCS, and Spectrum Mobile users, the update is being rolled out for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The firmware versions for these devices are F936USQS3CWFB and F721USQS3CWFB, respectively. Additionally, Xfinity Mobile locked units are receiving the update with firmware versions F936USQS3CWF2 and F721USQS3CWF2 for the respective devices.

On the other hand, Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra owners on Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile will also receive the update. The firmware versions for these devices are S901USQS3CWF2, S906USQS3CWF2, and S908USQS3CWF2, respectively.

Important updates included in the patch:

Samsung recently provided detailed information about the July 2023 security patch. According to the official security bulletin, this release addresses a total of 90 security flaws found in Galaxy phones and tablets.

Out of these, 52 security fixes are focused on addressing vulnerabilities related to Google’s software and Samsung’s own software, while the remaining 38 vulnerabilities pertain to Samsung’s hardware, software, and apps. Some of the key issues addressed in the patch include ADB-related concerns, UWB (Ultra-Wide Band) chipset vulnerabilities, SMS configurations, improper access control issues in Settings, and more.

Updating your device:

To install the latest update on your Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, or Galaxy Z Flip 4, simply follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Navigate to the “Software update” section.
  3. Tap on “Download and install” to initiate the update process.
