Now WhatsApp Backups Are part of the Drive Storage Quota
WhatsApp is gearing up to enhance the user’s experience in 2024. Finally, WhatsApp backups on Android will count towards Google Drive storage.
Previously, WhatsApp backups on Android were exempt, but now it appears the backups on Android devices will finally count towards Google Drive storage. To experience this new enhancement, the users using WhatsApp’s stable channel will appear in a new “WhatsApp backup” entry in their Google Drive storage under the “other” section. Clicking on it will open the “Manage Storage” page of the application, where various conversations and files occupy the space.
The users will also be able to manage this backup and free up space by deleting large media and documents within the application. However, this switch to Google Drive for WhatsApp backup feature for Android users is expected to roll out widely soon.
At the moment, only some of the users have seen this feature on their Google accounts. However, by the first quarter of 2024, the brand is expected to make the update widely available to all users.
WhatsApp stated that the notification banner will appear 30 days in advance. The brand is rolling out gradually for the users who have yet to see the feature on their accounts, so they will also get the feature soon.
