The tri-fold has been a concept that brings some true challenges in front of a smartphone company with respect to the form factor, design, and other basics. While Huawei is the only one who is already in the game with its first tri-foldable smartphone, Samsung seems to be eyeing development of its upcoming Double-fold (tri-fold) smartphone, revealed by the latest patent filed.

Previous reports claimed that Samsung is already working on bringing its first tri-foldable phone to the market, after Huawei’s significant lead. Recently, a new patent has been filed that brings Samsung’s latest innovation of its first double-fold smartphone to light, even after facing a decline in sales in the foldable market.

Galaxy Tri-Fold to feature a unique form factor for more durability:

Galaxy audience first witnessed the designs of Samsung’s future tri-fold Galaxy phone back in November, last year; a new patent hit online on January 2nd, 2025, by the World IP Office that shares the evidence that Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold (Double-fold) smartphone will feature a unique form factor in its design that could be both Fold-in and Fold-out in nature for more enhanced durability.

Specifically, the new patent showcases the schematic diagram of Samsung’s future double-fold smartphone in an unfolded state: its backside view and frontside view, while it further illustrates the smartphone’s folded state with respect to a diagram that shows the foldable device includes two magnets.

Since Huawei received a significant boost by shaking up the positions of other big names, including Samsung, when it introduced the initial tri-foldable smartphone in the market, Samsung aims to capitalize on its top spot in the smartphone industry and thus result in the development of its first-ever tri-fold smartphone as expected via the patent filed online, even after receiving a disappointing decline in the profit in sales of the Galaxy Book-style foldables.
